book-reviews

Coaching Library

I use a lot of the concepts in these books as part of my coaching practice; I’m often asked about where to go to find out more information or get more depth on a particular subject, so I decided to put up a page for everyone’s convenience. The books and e-books presented below are books that I’ve found to be helpful in both my business and personal life, in one form or another They also specificly exclude a whole lot of other books that I’ve not found to be terribly helpful. As you peruse these books (or any others), it’s sometimes helpful to keep a couple of ideas firmly in mind — first, you sometimes have to sift a lot of sand to find the gold dust. These books represent some of the more promising areas of the stream, but many of them do require some thought, study and experimentation to seperate the great ideas from the noise. Second, and perhaps more important, the best ideas in the world won’t help you if you don’t put them into motion.

Note: The techniques in this article can help you get the most out of studying these (or any other) books.

cover Getting Things Done by David Allen

I can’t say enough great things about Getting Things Done. I’ve seen a lot of different organizing and time management systems over the last 25 years, but this one is different. How? First, because it’s simple, and second, because it works! David Allen has taken the time to break down the psychological reasons behind why we get behind on things (and then feel guilty about it), and put together a methodology that’s reasonable, straightforward, and easy to implement and keep. Put this one on your “Must Read” list.

cover Getting Past OK by Richard Brodie

A great book on finding your way by the guy who dropped out of college to write Microsoft Word.

cover Using Your Brain — For A Change by Richard Bandler

Richard Bandler is the guy who brought us Neuro-Lingusitic Programming, which is probably the most useful model of how the brain works (and how to make it work better) to date. This book is an introduction to using some of the basic NLP techniques to get the most out of your head.

cover Change Your Mind — And Keep The Change by Steve & Connirae Andeas

The Andreas’ are two of Bandler’s top students, and assembled most of his early books out of transcripts of his seminars. This book is essentially the sequal to “Using Your Brain” above, and adds a lot more depth and flexibility to the concepts.

cover Instant Rapport by Michael Brooks

A kind of “popularized” version of NLP rapport. Lots of good stuff in here, and more depth than in most of the introductory NLP books, but only on rapport itself. Essentially, this is a great technique for quickly establishing a substantial depth of communication with others.

cover The Psychology of Persuasion by Kevin Hogan

A great introduction to the concepts of how to use persuasion in business. Not as in-depth on NLP techniques as Persuasion Engineering, but a lot more depth on proper mindset and outcome planning.

cover Persuasion Engineering by Richard Bandler and John La Valle

Bandler and La Valle’s killer book on NLP and Persuasion. If you have to sell anything to anyone (and EVERYBODY is selling something), this book will take you to new levels.

cover The Trick To Money Is Having Some! by Stuart Wilde

Wilde provides some great insight into the concepts of abundance, deservedness, and the importance of proper focus.

cover The Diet Cure by Julia Ross

This book isn’t about dieting so much as it is about getting healthy by improving your diet. Ross takes a targeted approach of offering a survey, and then directing you to the part of the book that will help you most. All I can say is that I’ve had great results with following her recommendations, personally.

cover Acupressure’s Potent Points by Michael Reed Gach

A complete novice’s guide (with great pictures and simple instructions) to self-help with acupressure. A lot of it seems to work rather well for me, and it definately saves on asprin and the like.

cover Energy Medicine by Donna Eden

Everyone I know who has been able to suspend their judgement a little about such things as energy meridians, chakras and auras and actually do the daily drills from this book (takes about five minutes) has had excellent results in terms of feeling healthier and more energetic. Is it real? Is it placebo effect? Beats me. I use it, it works for me.

E-Books - I love e-books. I carry around 75 - 100 books on my PDA at all times; about a third of them are books on my in-stack, and the other two thirds are references that I want to be able to refer back to at any given time. Outside of that, e-books offer instant delivery — buy them, download them, and you can be reading them in minutes. At this point, I only buy a book on paper if I can’t find any way to get it as an e-book.

cover Adventures in EFT by Sylvia Hartman

Expanded and revised yet again, this incredible book is considered the comprehensive reference to EFT by many people. Newcomer to EFT or advanced practitioner, if you are at all interested in this cornerstone technique of Energy Pyschology, this book is a goldmine of powerful ways to apply EFT to virtually any issue. 150+ pages of pure gold, available for instant download.

cover EFT & NLP by Sylvia Hartman

Special Report on EFT as a module for use by practitioners of Neuro-Linguistic Programming.

Topics include TimeLine Applications, EFT as the missing kinaesthetic quadrant, integrating EFT into NLP corporate presentations and the Energy Healing Progression Model.

EFT & Hypnotherapy by Chrissie Hardisty

Special report by AMT Co-Founder Chrissie Hardisty on combining classical hypnotherapy sessions with EFT.

Welcome to BSFF by Christine Sutherland

BSFF (”Be Set Free Fast”) is a technique related to EFT, but somewhat faster (what, two minutes isn’t fast enough to get rid of a problem?), and often instant. This is a great practical guide to using BSFF.

cover The BSFF Original Manual by Larry Nims

Directly from the originator of the revolutionary Be Set Free Fast, this is the original BSFF training manual with all relevant protocols, set ups and many supporting article to understand and apply this unique system of healing.

Lifeworks NLP by Christine Sutherland

NLP With Ease & Precision - A Practitioner Certification Manual

This manual is a world first, and takes you step-by-step through practitioner certification training. Nothing, of course, beats live training, but this book is the next best thing. Get a group of friends together and work through the fun exercises, making this an experiential and life-changing study!

cover The Gentle Touch by Paul Newcomb

This is a beautiful, gentle and truly amazing technique to instantly relieve pain and to retrieve unconscious emotions locked up in the body. Not related to TT or TFT based METs, entirely idiosyncratic and highly recommended.

Note: Sales from this e-book help fund Paul Newcomb’s work with aid and health workers in Africa to teach Gentle Touch and EFT

Audio Books - I like audio books also. I don’t like them as well as e-books, but they are enormously convenient at times — particularly if I’m driving (don’t try this with the Silva or Wendi Friesen stuff), or doing chores around the house; jack in the iPod, and I’m good for hours of basic lawn care…

cover The Secrets of Power Negotiating by Roger Dawson

You negotiate every day in your business and personal life. Why not be good at it? Its easy! Roger Dawson, one of the worlds top negotiators, tells you how in The Secrets Of Power Negotiating. Youll find out how to evaluate your own personality and, more importantly, the personalities of others.

Great Audio Book program on 6 CDs or Cassettes complete with Flashcards for practice.

cover The Silva Ultramind ESP System

Is there such a thing as ESP? Well, you be the judge. But leave that aside for the moment and consider this — meditation, self hypnosis, guided visualizations, etc. all have one thing in common — they teach you how to reach an alpha brainwave level. When you get to alpha, your brain is producing 25x more electrical energy and both hemispheres are operating in synch. Is it any surprise that certain types of thinking (who knows — and perhaps even ESP) work much better at alpha?

Well, you can sit zazen under your bodhi tree until you get it, or you can go to the pros and learn it the easy way. Jose Silva has been teaching how to quickly and effectively get to alpha brainwave level (and accomplish stuff once you’re there) for over 50 years.

Unfortunately, Mr. Silva is no longer with us, but his program has been revised and expanded for the new millenium, andreleased in this terrific Nightingale-Conant Audiobook format. Chock-full of great learnings and techniques, this program will quickly and easily teach you how to get to alpha any time you like. It’s worth it just for that, but it also is crammed full of some pretty amazing techniques that you can learn to do, verifiably, that have come from researching and teaching this stuff for over 50 years. If you want a simple no-nonsense way of making everything else you may do much more effective, it doesn’t get any better than this.

8 CDs or Cassettes (plus Bonus CD or Cassette) and Workbook / Practice Guide.

Hypnosis Tapes & CDs by Wendi Friesen

Do “hypnosis tapes” work? Yes, they can work very well, provided you actually give them a solid try — and the person who produced them is competent. Wendi Friensen is as competent as they come, and she has a vast library of tapes and cds for various different goals — and an army of enthusiastic customers. I’m one of them — I’ve never been unhappy with a product I purchased from Wendi, plus she offers a one year money-back guarantee. You can’t go wrong here. If you’ve never experienced hypnosis before and are curious, or are interested in self-hypnosis and would just like to know for sure how it should feel, try her awesome free hypnosis CD.
